Over the last few decades, many advances have been made in the production of glass. Concern over the consumption of natural resources forced researchers to develop more energy efficient products. As a result, several alternatives have taken the place of the single pane of glass that was commonly used prior to the 1970s. So, you may conveniently choose the level of comfort and energy efficiency that you desire.
Dual pane insulated glass with Warm Edge Intercept ™ Intercept® Warm-Edge spacer is nearly twice as effective in reducing heat transfer as a single pane of glass. It is created by sealing two single panes of glass to a spacer, creating an insulating chamber, which significantly reduces heat transfer. This keeps your home warmer in winter, and cooler in summer, saving you money on your energy bills, while you enjoy year-round comfort.
LoE² Glass reflects radiant heat while allowing in light, with the help of two layers of microscopically thin metallic coating. In warmer climates, LoE² glass reflects unwanted solar heat, keeping your home cooler and reducing cooling costs. In cooler climates, or in winter, LoE² glass helps keep your home warmer by reflecting radiant heat back into your home. As a result, your energy bills are lowered and you are more comfortable all year-round. In addition, LoE² glass blocks 84% of ultraviolet rays, which will protect your drapes, furnishings and carpets from fading caused by the sun.

Laminate glass is created by bonding two pieces of glass together with an inner layer of tough, transparent plastic. It is widely used in auto windshields. This durable film is 99.9% effective in blocking ultraviolet rays, which protects your furnishings. Laminate glass also provides superior noise reduction; sound transmission is reduced by as much as 50% when compared to ordinary glass. In the event of breakage, this glass will adhere to the inner plastic layer. This means there are no shards of glass with which to be injured, therefore making it safer than other types of glass.
Tinted glass filters out ultraviolet light and infrared radiation, reducing heat transfer. It is reserved primarily for warm climates or windows with a southern or western exposure, as tinting can also reduce the amount of light transmitted. Tinted glass may also be combined with LoE² for maximum energy efficiency. American Craftsman offers Bronze, Green and Gray tinted glass options.
Tempered glass, also called safety glass, is 4 to 5 times stronger than ordinary annealed window glass. If tempered glass should break, it will break into small pieces that do not have sharp or jagged edges. This reduces the risk of injury to you and your family.
Obscure glass offers privacy, making window coverings unnecessary, in areas such as bathrooms or for use in sidelights. Obscure glass has a translucent, rather than transparent appearance.
